Fukuyama, Hiroshima, Japan but born and raised in Montreal
Hello! My name is Diane and I'm a Montreal-Canadian that is a 4th year JET from Hiroshima prefecture.
Last winter, I went with Longitude-ARV (Association of relief volunteers) to build in Gummallapadu and had the most AMAZING experience! I thought I was going there simply to build houses for the Dalits and then go back to my daily life. What I experienced and got was on a whole different level. After days of working side by side with the Dalits, I got to see how generous, courageous, and wonderful they are. I also came to realize that for them, our combined efforts is not only just a roof over their heads, it was the first step to changing their lives and building a community. It's a step in the direction to break this vicious circle of poverty and oppression so that they can stand proudly on their own. This winter, I want to be part of that change again for many more families in need, I want to help make a difference. Won't you join me?
